    Enjoy a days paddle hire on the River Stort in single person kayaks.

    Our self guided paddling session along the River Stort with Whoosh Explore Canoe Club takes in sites of Maltings and mills as well as locks and weirs on an enjoyable adventure through Hertfordshire's countryside on the Stort Navigation which has lock located approximately one to two mile apart.

    Kayak, paddle and buoyancy aid are provided for your paddling session. Our sit in boats are easy to paddle with adjustable skegs which make them great for paddlers to head off on the river with confidence.

    This is a self guided paddling session on the river and we recommend that you have some paddling experience prior to an all day paddle.


    About our touring kayaks

    Our kayak have two features which make them great for touring.. Each boat has a storage hatch for taking small items with you ( like bottles of water clothing or sandwiches) and a skeg. The skeg is a boat stabiliser which assists you in paddling in a straight line.


    Possible Itineraries

    A paddle towards Spellbrook stopping for refreshment at the Three Horseshoes Public house a short distance from river near Bishops Stortford or for a longer paddle downstream towards Harlow Mill and Beefeater restaurant is possible on this tour. *This tour is most suitable for experienced paddlers as several locks are encountered on route where you will need to feel confident at getting in and out of the boat and able to carry the boat around locks).

    ( We can provide a security lock and cable if you choose to stop at a local pub for a drink or light meal.


    Looking for a full days paddling adventure

    Traveling upstream to Bishops Stortford offers a collection of pubs nearby, some riverside pubs with gardens include the Port Jackson near to the river and ideal for those wanting a great day on the river- this paddle has 4 locks to negotiate in each direction so paddlers should be confident at portaging boats on route .


    Requirements

    You should be able to carry a boat and be able to paddle with some confidence. There are portages on route where you will need to into and get out of the boat onto a high pontoon/ platform in some places.

    What to bring

    Bring a hat, sun cream and suitable water shoes as you will get a little wet.

    Itinerary

    The paddling sessions is self guided, you will have the option of paddling up towards Bishops Stortford heading north, or towards Harlow Town heading south on the River Stort navigation from our start point.Please remember that your journey is there and back, always paddle within you capabilities.
