Stage 1 Start Sailing course for Juniors

Description

The RYA Stage 1 and 2, is part of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme providing an enjoyable and progressive way to learn to sail.


This is a combined course including RYA Stage 1 and RYA Stage 2.


Stage 1: During Stage 1, you will learn the basics of sailing, parts of the boat and how to launch, recover, and steer.

  6. Capsize Recovery (Understanding)
  7. Meteorology


Stage 2: During Stage 2, you will continue to develop basic sailing skills, as well as ropework and collision avoidance. You will be able to tack and control boat speeds, leaving you in a good position to progress to Stage 3.

During this course, you will spend maximum time on the water in Picos, with the instructor close at hand to guide you safely and expertly throughout the day. All equipment is provided, including a wetsuit and buoyancy aid.


Upon successful completion of the course, you'll receive an RYA Stage 1 and Stage 2 certificate. Logbook and certificate included in the price.


Timings: 10am - 4:30pm everyday











Requirements

Water Confidence

No prior knowledge or experience of sailing is needed to take up this course.


What to bring

  1. Old Trainers or Wetsuit boots (if you have them).
  2. Towel
  3. Swimwear for underneath the wetsuit
  4. Sun Cream, Peaked Cap if hot
  5. Woolly Hat if cold
  6. Water Bottle
  7. Packed Lunch (or payment card for the onsite cafe)
