    Description

    Have you been on a SUP taster session? Maybe you're self-taught and you're ready to take your skills to the next level? Our SUP Improvers session is perfect for paddle boarders who have a bit of experience but want to build confidence and improve their paddle boarding technique.



    This two hour session will be led by one of our qualified instructors on the picturesque River Hamble. We'll cover some basics on land, including equipment, SUP basics, safety and weather conditions. We'll then head onto the water and focus on paddle technique, including efficient paddle strokes, basic and advance turns and more.


    Session Detail:


    On land:

    1. Safety brief - river conditions, weather, hazards and lesson plan
    2. Equipment brief:
    3. Board - parts of the board, different board types
    4. Paddle - parts of the paddle and correct sizing
    5. Leash - different styles for different water and activities
    6. Buoyancy aid - Size and correct fitting
    7. Paddle demonstration - prone, Kneeling, standing and falling safely
    8. Basic strokes - short paddle stroke and push turns
    9. Self rescue - getting back on the board
    10. Distress signal


    On water - basics:

    1. Climbing on board safely and using prone paddle to gain distance from hazards
    2. Checking water depth
    3. Recap basic paddle techniques and turns on the water


    On the water - improver:

    1. Using your core - How to engage your core as part of your paddle technique
    2. Refining your paddle stroke - Getting maximum power and efficiency
    3. Paddle counter balance - making use of your paddle for correcting your balance
    4. Advanced turns - cross bow, reverse paddle, forward steering and step back

    Additional

    1. Talk through services and apps for weather, tides and conditions
    2. Discuss opportunities to further build skills


    Most importantly, we'll have a great time out on the water with the beautiful surroundings of the River Hamble. By the end of the session you'll be gliding through the water with ease.

    Please arrive 30 minutes before your booked session to allow time to sign in, get changed, and meet your instructor.





    Minimum age 12 years old. (No Exceptions will be made).

    All under 18's must be accompanied by an adult on the activity.
