  • Description

Enjoy a relaxing 2 hours of kayaking along the River Leven to the foot of Lake Windermere and take in the beautiful Lake District sights out on the lake. Your hire slot includes use of our Islander sit-on top kayaks, along with a paddle and buoyancy aid each. Wetsuits are available to hire for an extra £5 and are only bookable on arrival depending on availability on the day.

We look after all our customers so even if you have been kayaking before, we will run through a safety and basic skills briefing to all our hirers before you enter the water to ensure everyone is comfortable, knows the area and is fully prepared for the activity.

All participants must be able to swim at least 50m.

We are happy for children aged 10+ to try kayaking if conditions are suitable, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times when out on the water. Only 1 person is permitted per single kayak.

Please note: This booking does not include an Instructor coming out with you onto the water.

    Requirements

Participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres.

Anyone under 18 years old wishing to hire a kayak must have an adult in a second kayak accompanying them out on the water at all times.

Only 1 person is permitted per single kayak. Please see our Double Kayak Hire package if you wish to share.

    What to bring

You will need to plan for all weathers and ultimately expect to get splashed! Always bring a towel and a spare set of dry clothes and shoes. If you have your own wetsuit then you are welcome to bring it (particularly in the cooler months when the water temperature is a lot lower) or wear clothes suitable for being on the water, i.e., swimsuit, shorts, t-shirt, leggings, gym wear, waterproof, wind-shell jacket, etc. (Avoid denim, thick hoodies or jogging bottoms that will get heavy when wet.) We do have some wetsuits available to hire, but please be aware that this is on a first-come first-serve basis as we have a limited amount, so correct sizes may not be available. Please always bring other suitable clothing to wear as a back-up option.

If you are happy and warm enough in bare feet then that is absolutely fine, but footwear, such as swim shoes or old trainers, can be useful as our launch slipway and river/lake shores are quite rocky underfoot.

Additional items you may like to bring depending on the weather:

    1. warm hats
    2. extra layer
    3. hard shell waterproof to shield from wind/rain
    4. sun cap
    5. sun cream
    6. bottled water
    7. neoprene booties/gloves

Your valuables, such as car keys and phone, will obviously need to be protected, so a waterproof bag/phone case is good to bring along. If you do not have a bag then we may have a spare one you can borrow, or we will happily look after your items, but all valuables whether kept on land or on board are done so at your own risk.

Drinks and snacks are also a great essential to take with you, especially bottled water on hot days.
