Mark the winter solstice with a dusk swim and fire.

Description

On the shortest day of the year come and dip at dusk and then in the growing darkness gather around a warm fire for hot drinks, good company and maybe a seasonal story.

Requirements

Previous experience of wild swimming is required and you must be comfortable to walk over uneven ground in the dark.

What to bring

Your personal winter swim kit, including gloves if you have them. Water shoes or booties are essential. Please bring a tow float with a waterproof compartment for your torch if you have one or I can lend you one.

A small torch to put in your tow float and to guide you back in the dark.

Plenty of warm layers, hat and gloves for afterwards and a hot water bottle is a good idea. It is sometimes very windy at Fruid so a windproof coat or dryrobe is a good idea. as are warm waterproof shoes or boots.

Suitable footwear for walking on uneven terrain.

A personal hot drink and snack to share after our swim.

Please pack kit in a back pack for easy carrying on the short walk.

Itinerary

Parking by the damhead we have a 10 minute walk to our swim spot on a gently sloping gravel beach.

With our fire lit before getting in the water. We will enter the water together and enjoy dipping in our wild surroundings as the light fades.

After, we will gather around the warm fire with maybe a seasonal story and time to chat over a hot drink and snacks.
