Start Wild Swimming with a 1:1 session

Description

Getting into cold water for the first time can feel very daunting. Maybe you've had a bad experience in the past or you don't feel very water or body confident and trying it with others feels too overwhelming.

In a 1:1 session there is time to take it slowly, ask questions and for you to have a truly individual approach as you are guided safely into the water and through the warm up after.

From experience it often takes around 3 sessions to learn and practice what works for you, know and understand how your body is reacting and feel like you can go on and swim independently in a safe way.

Sessions include a kelly kettle wild foraged herbal tea and homemade 'shivery bites'.

What to bring

Bring a swim suit, a towel and some shoes to wear into the water to protect your feet, water shoes or old trainers are great.

Plenty of warm layers and a woolly hat for afterwards, even if it is a warm day, Please bring at least one more layer than you think you will need and a windproof top layer.

Itinerary

We will meet at the designated meeting point and walk to our swim location together.

At the water's edge we will share any concerns about getting into cold water and discuss what is happening in the body when we immerse ourselves in the cold. We will cover why it is important to enter the water slowly and how we will get in safely.

We will then get changed, organise all our clothes for our exit and then, together, will prepare to enter the water taking our time, using our breath to support us to get in.

Once settled in the water we may have a short swim, tread water and chat or have a go at the calming effect of sitting on the bottom.

On our exit, once we are dry and fully clothed, we will share a wild foraged herbal tea made using a kelly kettle and homemade 'shivery bites' and cover other important safety concerns and plan some next steps.
