Build Confidence in Challenging Conditions

White-capped seas, surf landings, breaking waves and stronger winds are all part of sea kayaking—but they don't have to hold you back.

This two-day course is designed for paddlers looking to develop the skills and confidence to paddle safely and efficiently when conditions become more demanding. Through expert coaching, practical exercises and real-world paddling, you'll learn how to stay in control of your kayak in rougher water, make better decisions, and handle challenging conditions with greater confidence.

Working in a small group of no more than four paddlers per coach ensures plenty of individual feedback, tailored coaching and time on the water. By the end of the course, you'll have a stronger understanding of rough water techniques and the confidence to enjoy more adventurous sea kayaking.

This course is designed for sea kayakers who are comfortable paddling in moderate conditions and are ready to develop their skills in rougher water. It's ideal for paddlers looking to build confidence in wind, waves and surf, while improving boat control, decision-making and safety in more challenging environments.

Participants should have a solid foundation of sea kayaking skills, including efficient forward paddling, turning and self-rescue techniques. Previous experience in moderate tidal waters or exposed coastal conditions is recommended, and you should be comfortable paddling for a full day on the sea.

Whether you're preparing for personal adventures, progressing towards leadership or coaching awards, or simply want to feel more capable when the weather and sea state become more dynamic, this course will give you the skills and confidence to paddle with greater control.
