This is a paddle for intermediate paddlers who want to go a bit further and at a moderate pace.
Description
An upstream trip for intermediate paddlers who want to go a bit further and a bit faster.
We will paddle up with the incoming tide up to Twickenham before stopping for a drink and waiting for the tide to turn and then paddling back with the outgoing tide.
This is a session for intermediate paddlers who are comfortable on a board and would like to paddle with less restrictions and a bit further than our standard SUP trips.
Should have completed a few Active 360 sessions on the River Thames before joining this trip. If not you can join any of our other trips to get a bit more confidence before joining a SUP London session. This is a 4hr trip (if we decide to have a longer break it could overrun but this will depend on the group).
Requirements
Only for confident paddlers!
You do not need to be a proficient swimmer, but should be comfortable about falling into water while wearing a buoyancy aid.
You will need to shower / wash thoroughly after the session if you have fallen in or been splashed and need to ensure any open cuts are covered.
We will also need to know of any recent injuries prior to the session.
What to bring
Try to arrive 'ready to go' if possible.
What to wear/bring?
Remember to check weather forecast and dress accordingly.
In warm weather (spring/summer):
- gym/jogging type quick drying 'technical' clothing
- footwear is essential - neoprene/water shoes are best, if not a spare pair of trainers or old sandals (with a heel strap) will do. Your feet will get wet! NO FLIP FLOPS (you may lose them in the water and the river mud)
- change of clothes and a towel just in case you take a little dip during your SUP lesson
- extra layers to put on after the activity (exercise makes us feel a bit chilly after)
- waterproof case for your phone if you are planning to take it on water with you
- retainers for your glasses/sunglasses (don't lose them!)
- wetsuits are available on site if required
- sunscreen is a MUST in the summer even on an overcast day.
- make sure you arrive HYDRATED to your session (please start drinking water 1- 2 hrs before your session and drink plenty of water!)
Where can I leave my belongings?
There are no lockers on site but personal belongings (in a bag) can be left in the arches.
Itinerary
We will start at Kew Bridge with a short safety brief/discussion. Then we will head out on the river with the incoming tide towards Eel Pie Island in Twickenham. We will stop for a break for refreshments whilst waiting for the tide to turn . Then we will return with the outgoing tide back to Kew Bridge.
