Join professional artist Emma Baker for a session of mosaic mindfulness and create your own marine inspired mosaics.

Description

Join professional artist Emma Baker for a session of ‘mosaic mindfulness’.

Create your own beautiful mosaic plaque for indoor use inspired by the marine life that lives in the waters around Arran, all while taking the time to slow down, connect with others and learn about some of the incredible marine animals that live around Arran.

Emma will teach you how to create your plaque using mosaic tiles and a wide selection of china and items found from around the shoreline, as well as how to use tile nippers to cut down larger tiles to create your own sizes and shapes.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll also learn about the species you’ll be creating and how protective measures have helped protect them – all while you’re surrounded by real life sea creatures in our catch and release tanks at the Discovery Centre. With marine inspiration and guidance from Emma, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the incredible underwater world that surrounds Arran.

Pricing includes all materials, Emma’s expertise and guidance, hot drinks and biscuits throughout, as well as directly supporting COAST work in protecting Arran's seas.

Please note, you will be required to take your work home to grout once the glue has dried, but you will be provided with the materials and guidelines to do this.

Date: 5th September

Time: 2pm - 5pm

Location: COAST Discovery Centre

About the artist

Emma is mosaic and felt maker living and working on the Hebridean island of Islay. She has been working as an artist for approximately 8 years since she retired from her work as a social worker and was the co-editor of ‘Grout’ magazine - the membership publication for members of the British Association of Modern Mosaic.

Much of Emma’s time exploring her home island of Islay has been from a kayak, bike or walking along its coastline. With regular snorkelling trips and dips in the sea, Emma has become increasingly drawn to the marine world which in turn has inspired the art that she creates, leading her to share the wonder of what lies beneath the waves and how important and precious it is to protect.
