A paddle upstream towards Bishops Stortford is possible with a portage around Tednamebury Lock to Spellbrook with a short walk to The three Horseshoes pub, if a longer trip is wanted a visit to the Head of the Navigation at Sworders field or the landing stage at the Port Jackson pub for a drink and snack is possible on this tour when heading upstream . Paddling downstream offers scenic countryside views towards Sawbridgeworth and Locks and there is a countryside pub restaurant a short walk from Harlow Mill Lock *Suitable for experienced paddlers and families with paddling experience.

This Longer trip on the river requires portaging around locks on the navigation. You should be able to get into and out of your boat unaided from a 0.5 metre landing platform.

A change of clothing is recommended for paddling, wear jogging or gym type kit rather than jeans and trainers or neoprene boots to paddle in , Have waterproofs or waterproof trousers for wet days.

Self guided paddles allow you to explore the local waterways on the River Lea and Stort Navigation. A trip one lock up is possible in 2.5 hours, or have a shorter paddle to a local Riverside Pub and Restaurant.
