This award is applicable to all those undertaking surf coaching and instruction activity to provide a vocational industry standard based on proven rescue task competencies, using recognised research and recommended rescue equipment. It establishes a level of competence for the safety and rescue of participants under instruction during a coached ISA (or equivalent) surf activity session undertaken in surf conditions appropriate for those being instructed.
This award is for the specific use of a Qualified Surf Coach for Surf Coaching Activity only. It is not suitable for safety cover for any other multiple participant activities such as Coasteering, SUP Coaching, paddle sports or open water swimming unless ONLY USED as a Lifeguard who is part of a managed
water safety team using written risk assessments as the basis for the safety cover plan.

Minimum age: 16 YO
Pre-requisites :

- You need to be able to complete the following fitness test:
. 400m swim in a pool in 8 min or in the sea in 8min 30
Validity: 24 months from assessment, then 12 month annual proficiency (as long as validity has not lapsed)
ONLINE
Online session on Thursday 3rd April at 7:00pm to open the course, cover some of the lifeguarding theory and get you started to prepare the course.
PRACTICAL
When:
- From Sunday 13th April until Wednesday 16th April, between 8:30am and 5:30pm
Where:
Churchstow village hall for the first aid and theory
Challaborough or Bigbury beach for the water and beach based work
Pool swim at Kingsbridge leisure centre (date and timing TBC)

Award aims: This award is applicable to all those undertaking surf coaching and instruction activity to provide a vocational industry standard based on proven rescue task competencies, using recognised research and recommended rescue equipment. It establishes a level of competence for the safety and rescue of participants under instruction during a coached ISA (or equivalent) surf activity session undertaken in surf conditions appropriate for those being instructed. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, rescue board paddling, running and lifting.
Training and assessment process: Trained and assessed throughout the course by a SLSGB trainer.
