Description
Early evening paddling on the calm and tranquil River Stour provides a unique opportunity to explore one of the most historic and prettiest navigations in England as it weaves it's way through the undulating landscapes that inspired some of nations biggest artists while also getting close to nature and stopping at places of local historic interest.
Our 2 hour experience will start at our riverside meeting point in Cattawade where we'll have a quick safety chat and practice some simple paddle skills before donning our buoyancy aids and heading out onto the river.
Once on the water we'll paddle at a gentle pace (approx 2mph) through this stunning Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) along the edge of the marshes to a picturesque spot where we'll stop for an explore with field-refreshments (provided) before embarking on the return leg back to to Cattawade.
Wildlife sightings may include Black Swan, Red Kites, Otter, Water Vole, Kingfisher as more common wildfowl, swans, moorhen and heron.
Other things to note:
The River Stour is a calm and tranquil river, it is 'ungraded' and therefore suitable for beginners of average fitness.
Up to 2 x <10's OR 1 x 10-14 yr old can join 2 paying adults as passengers on the floor in the middle of the canoe free of charge.
Please dress for the weather - we keep some spare waterproofs but you'll be most comfortable in your own gear!
