  • Description

Experience your first session on the water, learning useful skills for an enjoyable paddling experience. It aims to provide you with the basic knowledge to enable you to safely get on and off your kayak, ensuring you feel safe, confident and ready to progress to the Discover Award.

    Key Learning Points:

    Clothing and Equipment

Understanding clothing and equipment you are using and why it is used is an important part of a first session. You should be warm, comfortable and safe whilst on the water.

    Getting on the Water

Having decided upon equipment for the session you must get it to the water without damage to it, yourself or the environment. Some craft can be heavy and need more than one person to carry them. Once on the water your craft can move around.

    On the Water

In order to maximise your enjoyment on the water, you need to feel in control of your craft. Key elements of this are getting the craft to go where you want, when you want it to go there.

Our experienced instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement.

Please Note: Minimum age to participate is 16 years old.

    Safety Notice:

Safety is our number one priority. In the event of poor weather conditions, for example; strong winds or thunder and lightning, we reserve the right to restrict water access to particular user groups, restrict the area available for activities, or close the lake. We will endeavour to give advance notice whenever possible, however, some decisions need to be made at short notice.

In the case where the lake is needed to be closed, we will endeavour to notify all customers to offer the opportunity to reschedule their session or receive a refund. We will also ensure the message is shared on the Llys Y Fran website and social media pages.

    Requirements

Before travelling to Llys Y Fran, we ask that you follow the current government advice and do not travel if you have any of the following symptoms:

    1. A new, continuous cough: this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual).

    1. A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste: this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

To ensure the safety of our customers and staff we ask you to sign a health declaration confirming you are free of symptoms.
