  • Description

This course has been designed for competent paddlers who want to learn the essential skills in SUP Safety and Rescue. During this training candidates will be taught the fundamentals in Health and Safety covering in-depth assessment of hazards, how to account for conditions (tides, weather, 3rd party and water conditions), how to perform a risk assessment, incident management (hierarchy of interventions, identification - categorization - prioritization - execution), how to deal with a panicked paddler, dealing with the effects of cold water shock, towing techniques and in-water rescue techniques.

It is expected that you will have undertaken First Aid training or be willing to obtain First Aid training after this course.

This course is blended learning based both on land and in water. Candidates will be expected to be comfortable in the water and have a good level of fitness. Candidates will be assessed according to the competency framework and learning objectives. Each candidate will receive feedback on what areas they are competent in & what needs further development.

It is expected that candidates will have their own equipment to undertake this course, however paddleboard hire is available. We do expect that candidates will be competent, either completing the BSUPA Ready to Ride or completing a Taster and Improver session.
