In support of the RNLI
Join us at The Anglers for the inaugural Teddington Lock paddleboard race - you can use our boards and equipment or bring your own.
Lots of fun on the river, mixed with fundraising for the RNLI.
The races will be taking place all afternoon on Saturday 17th September between 12:00 and 18:00. Bring your own paddleboard, or rent one from The Anglers on the day.
Entry £20 if you have your own board, with 50% going to the RNLI. Board rental £10.
Free drinks voucher and snacks kindly provided by The Anglers with every entry.
Each competitor will race on a timed 500m course, starting by the bridge at Teddington Lock, and heading downstream, round a marker buoy and behind the moorings to the finish line at The Anglers. Each race should take 5-10 minutes to complete - so these are sprints, not marathons!
All you need to do is sign-up for one of the race heats, turn up for your session, have a little warm-up, and away you go!
Everyone will be timed, with prizes for fastest time of the day, fastest male, fastest female and fastest over-60. There'll also be a doggy paddle race, and a fancy dress race, and a race for two on a board. Everyone very welcome to compete in fancy dress!
Prize giving at 6pm
Handicap system.
To ensure a level playing field, all racers will be handicapped based on their paddleboard length, as follows:
Up to 10'8" - no penalty
10"9"-12'6" - add 10 seconds
Over 12'6" - add 15 seconds
So, help support the RNLI, who keep all of us safe on the river, and join us for an afternoon of fun river racing!
Cancellation and Bad Weather
Please see our Cancellation Policy for details on cancelling or rescheduling your session.
We don't cancel sessions due to rain - in fact it's lovely on the river in the rain! However, very occasionally, due to extreme weather (high winds, lightning or poor visibility), we may need to cancel your paddleboard session. On these occasions we will contact you and attempt to reschedule your lesson, and if this is not an option, we will offer you a credit voucher or full refund. If you don't hear from us, the session is going ahead!
You must be able to safely stand up, turn and stop your paddleboard. The races are not for complete beginners,
No ankle leashes allowed (this is the PLA's rule for the tidal Thames), but you are free to wear a quick release waist leash if you like and/or a buoyancy aid. We can provide buoyancy aids if you don't have your own.
Each competitor will race on a timed 500m course, starting by the bridge at Teddington Lock, and heading downstream, round a marker buoy and back to the finish line at The Anglers. Each race should take 5-10 minutes to complete - so these are sprints, not marathons.
You can race on your own to get your time, or race in one of our race heats where up to 6 paddlers go head to head.
