Description
Adults and Children over the age of 12 Only (Under 18's must have consent from parent or legal guardian)
What's involved:
The session is aimed at those wanting to improve there paddling confidence in a safe warm environment. This session breaks down the barriers that some paddlers may have with cold lake water and helps focus on developing skills.
There will be only 8 people at the session and depending on what we are doing this may be only 4 people paddling at any one time.
What will we do :
There are a range of development skills that we will cover in the pool making the most of the time we have and these may include:
Footwork, balance and coordination
Forward paddle breakdown
Cross Deck Turns/Linking strokes
Pivot Turns
Safety, Self Rescue and Peer rescues
Some freestyle challenges to stretch your ability and a bit of FUN :)
We also introduce SUP Polo at the end so you can come back on one of those sessions.
Is this for me?
This session is NOT a complete beginner’s SUP session, It’s a introduction to SUP improver skills needed., So you should have at least stood up on a board and have some basic skills to move it. You will need to be able to swim and be confident in the water. A certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required. Must able to attempt self-rescue back on to your board.(We give helpful tips in lesson)
What kit is provided?
We will provide SUP Board 10'6 and 10'8 Red Paddle Rides ,Paddle, PFD and Helmet. (Your welcome to bring own Buoyancy aid please make sure its clean)
What do I wear/need?
All you need is a swimsuit/shorts t-shirt,(provided helmet during any games or freestyle) water bottle and any personal medication such as inhalers..
Where do we meet?
We will meet at Catterick swimming pool seating/cafe area at 7:55pm just past reception where we do any paperwork needed before going into the pool. You must let the reception staff know you are signed up to the SUP session and they will let you in. Time is quite short in the pool so please can you be pool side at 8:15pm prompt for quick brief.
What’s next?
You are now ready to sign up to other sessions such as SUP Polo Game sessions where you will join a team on the night and play between 5 and 6 games in a quick and fun session with other paddlers. We also set aside some time on these sessions to try skills.
