  • Description

Our 2.5 hour Guided Eel Pie Island Kayak Adventures are probably the most popular group option that we offer.

Your session begins with a 15 to 20 minute safety briefing and (re)introduction to paddling before taking to the water for your journey into the Back of Beyond...

    1. Paddle the water between Richmond Bridge and Teddington Lock in a mix of single and double touring kayaks.
    2. Explore the islands and riverside jungle as you go.
    3. Visit a riverside pub.
    Requirements

Anyone taking to the River on a Guided Eel Pie Island Kayak Adventure must:

    1. be able to swim 50 metres.*
    2. be able to paddle independently without assistance.
    3. be accompanied at all times when on the water by a parent or guardian if aged 14 to 17 years.*
    4. wear their buoyancy aid at all times whilst on the water.

*If you are a weak swimmer please do let your instructor know so that they are aware of it.

**The adult to child ratio on the water is 1 adult to 2 children.

    What to bring

For all of our kayak adventures we recommend that you wear your usual paddling gear (if you have any) or shorts, running tights, or similar, and wear a t-shirt with additional layers appropriate for the day. You also need to have footwear to paddle with, for example old trainers.

We'll be stopping at a lovely riverside pub, so remember a bank card or similar.

    Itinerary

You’ll receive a (re)introduction to paddling, along with a safety briefing, and we’ll provide you with a dry bag that you can use to take a towel, food, phone and wallet with you.

You will be paddling in either single or double kayaks, subject to availability and conditions on the day.

Paddling towards Twickenham, you’ll get to explore the islands and backwaters of the Thames, before mooring up to pause for a pint at one of the paddle friendly, riverside pubs along the way. You’ll have time for a drink before we head back to the river to drift back to Richmond.

Once back at River Lane you'll help to stow the kit and pack away your boats before we say our farewells!
