Level 2 Kayak Skills Camp

Time: 2pm - 5pm
GoPaddle.ie's Kayak Skills Camp is perfect for any young person who would like to progress their Kayak Skills and achieve their Canoeing Ireland Level 2 Kayak Skills award.
We would recommend that your budding Kayaker has attended at least one of our Fun Kayak Camps or has some other kayak experience and is very comfortable in and around water.
This Camp is run using Sit In Kayaks.
Canoeing Ireland Level 2 Kayak Skills assessment included.
Paddlers who successfully complete the Level 2 Kayak Skills are eligible to join our Kayak Academy and attend our weekend, whitewater River Trips.

Requirements
What to bring
- wetsuit if you have one, if not one can be provided.
- something to wear under the wetsuit, ie swimming togs or shorts and T-shirt
- towel
- old runners that will get wet
- any relevant medication, eg inhalers etc...
- packed lunch and warm drink for break time.
- something warm to wear over the wetsuit at break time plus a warm hat.
Itinerary
Our friendly and experienced instructors use games and challenges to keep students engaged, to build confidence and to help form new friendships.
First we will build on the skills you currently have like -
Forward, Stop, Turning, Reverse and add in extras like:
- Low Brace
- Draw Stroke
- T rescue - righting your kayak, while still in it, using the front of another paddlers kayak.
- X rescue - emptying another paddlers Kayak (as a swimmer)
- X rescue (as a rescuer with assistance)
- Simple tow (without equipment)
- Knowledge of (can talk through) a tow using equipment.
Our experienced instructors will cover the following Theory, so that you can:
- List the basic safety rules of canoeing.
- Describe how to contact the emergency services.
- Outline weather and environmental factors that affect a kayaking session include being able to identify the following: General weather outlook, wind direction and speed, air temperature and water conditions for inland water or costal water.
- List the aspects of good group management and identify, explain, and give examples of the CLAP concept of group management.
- List the most important factors to trip planning
