Try kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding, with time to explore and coaching from our team.
Spend an afternoon on the water at Salford Quays, with kayaks, canoes and paddleboards to try and our team on hand to help you get more from your paddling.
Get on the Water is a two-hour supported session, giving you time to practise, try different craft and enjoy being out on the water. You can have a go at our course, join in with optional challenges or ask an instructor for help with a particular skill.
Coaching is available throughout the session, with opportunities to work individually or in a small group. There is no fixed lesson to follow, so you can choose what you would like to focus on and take part in the activities that interest you. Depending on the group and conditions, there may also be opportunities for a guided paddle into other permitted docks.
October pilot sessions
Wednesdays and Fridays, 2pm–4pm
£10 per person
12 places per session
Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, paddles and buoyancy aids are provided. Our team will help you choose suitable equipment and get started.
You do not need previous paddling experience. Let our instructors know what you have tried before and what you would like to get from the session so they can help you choose suitable craft and activities.
Please complete the booking questionnaire and disclaimer before attending. Tell us about any medical conditions, disabilities or additional support needs that may affect your participation so we can discuss these with you before the session. If you are unsure whether the session is suitable for you, please contact the centre before booking.
You must wear the buoyancy aid provided, suitable clothing and closed-toe footwear with solid soles. Follow the team’s safety instructions throughout the session.
Please bring clothes you are happy to get wet in, a towel, a complete change of clothes and a bag for wet kit. Activewear, like gym leggings, joggers or shorts with a T-shirt are suitable options. Waterproof clothing is recommended in case of rain. Bring warm layers for after your session.
Closed-toe shoes with solid soles are compulsory throughout the session. Old trainers or suitable watersports shoes are ideal. Flip-flops and sliders are not suitable.
If hiring a wetsuit, bring swimwear to wear underneath.
You will need a £1 coin for the lockers, which is returned after use. If you wear glasses, we recommend a securing strap. Leave loose valuables in a locker.
Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, paddles and buoyancy aids are provided.
We will start by getting you kitted up, finding out about your paddling experience and going through the safety briefing. The team will help you choose a craft and get on the water.
You will then have time to paddle, try different craft and practise at your own pace, with instructors available for tips and coaching throughout. You can have a go at the course, join in with optional challenges or focus on a skill you would like to develop. Where people want help with similar skills, we may bring a small group together for some coaching.
Depending on the group and conditions, there may also be an opportunity for a guided paddle into other permitted docks. Activities will be adapted to the participants and conditions on the day.
Before you leave, speak to the team about what you enjoyed and what you would like to try next, whether that is another Get on the Water session, Learn to SUP or Salford Paddlesports Club.
