Ever fancied learning to kayak? Or have you been on one of our hire sessions and would like some coaching? Then this session is perfect for you! This session is suitable for beginners or those wanting to pick up some tips. It will focus on familiarising yourself with the skills needed when using a kayak on holiday, on one of our hire sessions or if you're wishing to purchase your own Kayak.
Before You Book: For group bookings, please gather the email addresses and phone numbers of all participants prior to booking as you will be required to ‘Invite’ everyone to the booking once you have paid. It’s crucial that everyone in your group is informed of the below information and they are invited correctly as they will need to sign the disclaimer and question pack prior to attending.
Rules for a Safe Experience:
- Adult supervision is necessary for all minors, both in the water and around the centre.
- We reserve the right to deny access to anyone who we suspect to be under the influence of alcohol, with no refund provided.
- Adherence to our clothing and footwear policy is mandatory for participation. Limited spare footwear may be available.
- Respect for all safety instructions and centre rules is obligatory.
- Please be cautious on the slipway as it can be slippery.
- Spectators are asked to remain outside the gated area.
- Disrespectful or unsafe behaviour towards staff or fellow participants will result in immediate removal.
Booking and Cancellation Policy:
- Complete all necessary forms and questionnaires before arrival to avoid delays.
- No refunds for lateness or missed sessions.
- Strict 72-hour cancellation notice required for refunds, requested via booking details and email to watersportscentre@scll.co.uk.
Requirements
Pre-Requisites:
- Minimum Age: This session is aimed at adults, but youths aged 12-16yr can attend providing an adult is on site.
- Swimming Ability: All participants must swim 50m confidently.
- Physical Fitness: A general level of fitness, as kayaking can be physically demanding.
- Water Confidence: Comfort in and around water is essential, as participants will be on and potentially in the water.
- Health and Medical Conditions: Participants should be free from any health conditions that could be affected by the activity, and any potential issues should be communicated to the instructors beforehand.
What to bring
Equipment Provided:
- Buoyancy aids are mandatory and provided for all.
Clothing:
- Wetsuits are optional but recommended (available for hire at £4 online or £5 on-site). Please wear swimwear underneath.
- If opting out of a wetsuit, ensure your attire is suitable for getting wet— Warm layer and waterproofs are recommended during the winter months.
- Footwear must be water-appropriate, closed-toe, with solid soles (no flip-flops or sliders). Helmets are provided and required for those under 17.
Personal Belongings:
- Lockers are available (require a £1 returnable coin).
- We recommend using a glasses strap if needed and advise against loose items on the water. SWC is not liable for lost/damaged items.
- Don’t forget a towel and a bag for wet clothes.
