    SUP Sheltered Water Award šŸ†


    Obtain a certification under the Paddle UK Awards system (formally known as British Canoeing). Your SUP Sheltered Water Award is one of the Paddle UK Personal Performance Awards. It will give you the ability to organise and carry out a safe and enjoyable trip on the water up to 200 metres from shore, up to force 3 in winds. This award is also designed to develop a range of skills such as the correct feet, body positioning and strokes required to keep you balanced.

    What to expect

    1. Fundamental paddle boarding Skills: Learn the correct feet and body positioning to maintain balance and control over your board.
    2. Advanced Paddling Techniques: Master a range of strokes and manoeuvres to navigate through different water conditions effectively.
    3. Safety and Planning: Understand how to assess weather and water conditions, plan your route, and carry out a trip safely up to 200 metres from shore.
    4. Personal Development: This award not only enhances your technical skills but also focuses on decision-making and personal development in the paddle boarding environment of your choice.

    3. You must also be a Paddle UK / British Canoeing on the water member to be able to receive the certification, you can purchase this here. Please ensure to provide us with you membership number so the award updates directly to your membership profile.
    4. You do not have to be a Paddle UK / British Canoeing member to participate in the course, it's only to get the certification.


    Who is this for

    Paddle boarders who wish to plan their own SUP adventures. You will gain further knowledge and skills to develop independence in the sheltered water environment. This award is also great for those preparing for Instructor qualifications.

    2. Can I do this course privately? You absolutely can. 1:1 is a great way to learn. Please get in touch to discuss costs for private tuition.

    šŸ©¹ The quality of our local waterways is something to always be aware of and itā€™s important to do your own research regarding this. When paddle boarding with us we ask that you cover up any minor cuts and abrasions, and to wash once you are home if you fall/swim in the river, this is to reduce the risk of disease such as weil's disease. Paddle Up strongly recommends not to participate in paddling if I have any open wounds, and instead to reschedule. Read our FAQ's here.


    Requirements

    This award is open to all but we do ask that you are...

    1. To get best from the course you should be a competent paddler.
    2. Fit for a full day of paddling.
    3. A confident swimmer.
    4. Adults only, 18+ (contact us prior to booking if you'd like to book a place for an under 18 year old).
    5. If you'd like the Award certification, the only prerequisite is to be a Paddle UK (British Canoeing) on the water membership.Ā

    What to bring

    What to wear: Wear weather appropriate clothing for SUP, quick drying active wear, wetsuit/drysuit & shoes you don't mind getting wet.

    Equipment: All SUP kit is available to use, but feel free to bring your own.

    If providing your own kit: Paddle board, paddle, buoyancy aid, waist leashes, phone case, drybag with change of clothes, waterways licence / Paddle UK membership card.

    Remember to bring the following; Bottle of water, sun cream, hat, waterproofs, & any medication eg inhaler. And don't forget to pack a towel and a change of warm clothes. And most importantly.... plenty of FOOD!!



    Itinerary


    1. Arrive: 09:00 - 17:00
    2. If bringing your own kit, we'd suggest arriving around 08:30 to give time to set up
    3. This course is being run from Paxmead Riverside Base in Shepperton on the River Thames.
    4. There is parking on site, and access to toilets and hot showers
