Experience the open water, role play scenarios, and learn safety skills
This 1 hour session is designed to help teens learn how to swim outdoors safely.
It will include
Guiding through a slow, controlled entry into the water and an expanation of cold water shock
A supported swim of 200-500m (depending on ability) to show the fatigue accumulation which can occur.
Treading Water
Some simple self rescue techniques
Strategies to support others in trouble.
Some role play scenarios
Discussion and Q&A with Jo, experienced outdoor swimmer, swim teacher, coach, and water safety professional.
Parents can come and listen too, but the in water session is for 11-18 year olds. For under 16's, parents do need to be on site, (there is a CAFE - Wandering Kitchen or enjoy the local views.
You must be able to swim 50m (2 lengths) of a swimming pool and be comfortable out of your depth.
