  • Explore our local wild place, the River Thames!

    Description

The John Muir Award is an excellent way to connect with the natural world around us. Based on four core values to discover, explore, conserve and share our wild spaces.

This programme is set over four days to complete the Discovery Award. We will look at the wild spaces around us and engage with them through paddling, bushcraft and exploration working together to meet the four pillars of the award.

Suitable for ages 8 - 17 years old.

    Requirements
    1. Participant should be comfortable on and around the water, our land based sessions will involve bush-craft skills which will include working safely around fire, building small fires and may include working with tools. Please let us know if you have any concerns surrounding this.
    2. The participant should be able to partake in physical activity for this period of time, please check with your doctor or call us with any concerns.
    What to bring

Please ensure that each participant has clothes appropriate to the weather and a change of clothes (preferably two changes) including:

    1. Footwear - Old trainers/sandals/wet boots - that you don’t mind getting wet (not flip-flops or wellington boots)
    2. Lightweight trousers or shorts
    3. T-shirt / Long sleeved garment
    4. Lightweight sweatshirt
    5. Windproof top and trousers
    6. Hat, sunscreen
    7. Drink
    8. Packed Lunch
    9. Towel and dry clothing
    10. Any medication eg: Inhaler, EpiPen (ensure staff are informed of any medication that you drop your child off with on the day).

    Itinerary

We will work on different elements of the award across the four days, this will include being on the water as well as being on the land. Please check out the John Muir Award on their website for some more information about the work that they do.

Did axe throwing and buggy building and it was such a fun experience for a group of 13. The staff were really friendly, accommodating and fun for the two activities and would def come back
