BCAB Canoe Open Water Leader Assessment

  • canoeing

  • 8 hrs

  • Max 2 people

The perfect award for paddlers leading people in canoes in a moderate water environment.

Description

The Canoe Open Water Leader is designed to get you out leading paddlers on open water in a force three winds. You'll be able to lead up to six boats.

We'll also look at ways to inspire, support, and challenge paddlers and involve them in decision-making.

This award is perfect for those leading in clubs or centres, and works really well either as a stand alone award or with a coaching/instructor award.

Requirements

Check the assessment guidance and let us know if there are any bits that you're unsure about before we start.

You also need to have registered with Paddle Scotland (or your own home nation).

This is vital if you have not registered we can't assess you.

What to bring

You'll be the leader so you'll need to organise your full leader kit for the environment we'll be operating in.

If you're unsure about this prior to the assessment, check the assessment guidance on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website or get in touch.

You'll be doing rescues so be prepared to get wet.

That's up to you...!
